Who We Are

Our Mission

Connecting and empowering communities through education and advocacy to sustainably improve mental health and prevent substance misuse.

Our Goals

We aim to provide a healthier community for both the youth and adults of Rutherford County by reducing substance abuse. We do so by addressing the factors that increase substance abuse and arming the community and our partners with the knowledge and support to minimize the risk of substance abuse.

Our Strategy

How We Work

Our evidence-based approach addresses substance misuse at every level — individual, community, and systems-wide.

A Public Health Approach

Public health is “What we, as a society, do collectively to assure the conditions for people to be healthy” (National Academies Press). We create a strong collaborative effort between communities, agencies, and government on every level to establish a multi-sector, evidence-based plan to combat substance abuse.

Environmental Change Strategies

Environmental change strategies involve changing the context in which substance misuse occurs. Our prevention efforts include changing or influencing community conditions, standards, institutions, structures, systems, and policies to reduce rates of substance misuse in youth. First steps towards environmental change are often education, raising awareness, and information dissemination.

Community Partners

Our community partners include Middle Tennessee State University, Rutherford County Health Department, St. Thomas Rutherford, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, La Vergne Police Department, Murfreesboro Police Department, Patterson Park Community Center, Rutherford County Schools, Murfreesboro City Schools, Read to Succeed, Boys and Girls Club, Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford Cannon Counties, United Way of Rutherford & Cannon Counties, and many more. Initiatives

Our Programs

Targeted initiatives that deliver real results across families, faith communities, and first responders throughout Rutherford County.

  • Family Preservation Initiative

The goal of this program is to prevent or reduce justice system involvement for youth with behavioral or mental health needs and their families. This program assesses strengths and needs of the entire family to coordinate customized resources, linkages to mental health and substance abuse services, develop a family plan, set goals, and celebrate successes. Subsequently, the trauma that would result from system involvement is mitigated.

  • Lifeline Peer Project

The Lifeline Peer Project breaks the stigma surrounding substance use disorder and mental health. Project Lifeline educates and informs the community about substance use disorder, delivers evidence informed trainings, and serves as a resource to link individuals to the behavioral healthcare system.

  • Faith-Based Regional Coordinator Program

The Faith-Based Regional Coordinator Program works with faith-based organizations to reduce stigma and increase understanding of substance use disorder to certify Recovery Congregations. Through the Recovery Congregation certification, faith-based organizations are connected to the behavioral healthcare system, equipped, connected, and empowered to serve those struggling with addiction.

  • First Responder Resource Engagement Specialty Team

First responders are a primary source of intervention for individuals with substance use disorder or experiencing an overdose. First Responder Resource Engagement Specialty Team (R.E.S.T.) provides education and resources for first responders including care coordination.
