Cigarettes

In 2015, 2.3% of middle school students reported that they smoked cigarettes in the past 30 days—a decrease from 4.3% in 2011. In 2015, 9.3% of high school students reported that they smoked cigarettes in the past 30 days—a decrease from 15.8% in 2011.

Illicit Drug

Past year use of heroin for 2015 is at an all-time low of 0.3% for 8th graders and 0.5% for 10th and 12th graders. In 2015, 3.6% of seniors reported past year use of MDMA (also known as Ecstasy or Molly) —a decrease from 5% in 2014.

Alcohol

In 2013, 35% of high school students reported that they drank some amount of alcohol in the past 30 days—a decrease from 44.4% in 2007. In 2016, 17.2% of high school seniors reported binge drinking (having five or more drinks in a row within the past two weeks)—a decrease from 19.4% in 2015.

Marijuana

In 2015, 5.2% of high school seniors reported that they used synthetic marijuana—a decrease from 11.4% in 2011.

Prescription Drug

In 2016, 4.4% of high school seniors reported non-medical use of prescription opioids—a decrease from a peak of 10.5% in 2003.
