REAL ID Requirements:
• A duplicate fee will be charged for a REAL ID unless the applicant is eligible for renewal.
• All proofs of residency must be printed.
• All government‑issued documents (birth certificates, passports, marriage certificates, etc.) must be original—no copies accepted.
• If an applicant’s current name differs from the name on their birth certificate, they must provide legal name change documentation (marriage certificates, divorce decrees, etc.).
• If presenting a valid passport with the current name, no name‑change documents are required.
The REAL ID requirements are also included as an attachment.
For New Residence / New State IDs:
New or returning Tennessee residents transferring an existing license from California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Nevada, or West Virginia must obtain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from their former state.
• All proofs of residency must be printed (please provide 2), dated within the last 4 months or within a valid policy term.
• All government‑issued documents must be original—no copies accepted.
• If the applicant’s current name differs from the name on their birth certificate, legal name change documentation must be provided.
• If presenting a valid passport with the current name, no name‑change documents are required.
Fee Information:
• Duplicates: $8.00 for the first; $12.00 for each additional.
• Renewals: $28.00 and up, depending on endorsements and class.
• ID Cards: Under 18 – $4.50; age 18+ – $12.00.
• Reinstatement Information: A printed letter with reinstatement instructions will be provided at no cost, if applicable.
• Accepted Payment Methods: Credit or debit card only.
Document Upload Guidance:
• Uploading documents for pre‑approval is optional but strongly recommended.
• Uploaded documents remain valid for 30 days. Please upload 5–10 days prior to the event.
• All original documents must still be presented at the event.
• Online uploads are for pre‑approval only.
